10 Best Hybrid Cars Under $30000

Today's hybrid cars aren't just more efficient than yesterday's, they also offer better performance. In fact some hybrids are quicker than their gas-only counterparts, thanks to the immediate boost provided by the electric motor. And with more choices than ever, going gas-electric has never been more appealing. There are more than 20 hybrids priced under $30,000, and we've hand-picked the 10 best.

2014 Toyota Prius

The best-selling hybrid car of all time remains the one to beat, but competitors keep climbing nearer. Still, no other car offers the same mix of fuel economy, price and practicality, which is why the Toyota Prius tops our list of 10 Best Hybrid Cars Under $30,000.

City/hwy/combined: 51/48/50 mpg

2014 Honda Accord Hybrid

The latest Honda Accord topped this year's list of 10 Best Sedans Under $25,000, and the new-for-2014 Accord Hybrid came very close to dethroning the king of hybrids on this list. Power delivery, braking and overall driving dynamics are superb in the gas-electric Accord, helping make it our new favorite hybrid midsize sedan.

City/hwy/combined: 50/45/47 mpg

2014 Toyota Camry Hybrid

The Camry midsize sedan remains the best-selling car in the country, and Toyota has more hybrid experience than anyone. Those realities come together nicely in the Toyota Camry Hybrid: a roomy, comfortable midsize sedan we enjoy driving even more than the perfectly pleasant 4-cylinder Camry.

City/hwy/combined: 43/39/41 mpg

2014 Toyota Prius v

The roomiest member of the Prius family gets "only" 42 combined mpg compared to the Prius' 50 figure, but the surprisingly spacious Prius V also offers more cargo room and flexibility than many small SUVs.

City/hwy/combined: 44/40/42 mpg

2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid

The Ford Fusion is one of the hottest midsize sedans on the road right now, and the Fusion Hybrid offers all the same bold styling with even better fuel economy. The most fun-to-drive hybrid midsize sedan also offers some of the coolest in-cabin tech.

City/hwy/combined: 47/47/47 mpg

2014 Acura ILX Hybrid

Hybrid efficiency, renowned refinement and a premium-brand ownership experience for less than $30,000? The Acura ILX is arguably the most pragmatic luxury car purchase you can make.

City/hwy/combined: 39/38/38 mpg

2014 Ford C-MAX Hybrid

With a unique design, rich interior and responsive driving dynamics, the Ford C-Max is one of the more interesting entries on our list of affordably priced hybrids. It's not as roomy or versatile as the Toyota Prius V with which it competes, but it's more fun to drive, nicer inside and more stylish in many eyes.

City/hwy/combined: 45/40/43 mpg (2013)

2014 Toyota Prius c

The smallest, most affordable car among these 10 standouts also offers the biggest fuel economy figure: 53 mpg highway. The entry model in the Prius lineup starts at just under $20,000 and barely tops $25,000 with a moonroof, navigation and leather-like seating.

City/hwy/combined: 53/46/50 mpg

2014 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid

The Jetta Hybrid combines hybrid efficiency with European style and driving feel. Its fuel economy figures aren't quite Prius-like, but with a turbocharged engine and sport-tuned suspension, the Jetta Hybrid is the most fun-to-drive car on this list.

City/hwy/combined: 42/48/45 mpg

2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid

Subaru's first hybrid doesn't deliver all the efficiency of the other cars on the list, but it's the only one with all-wheel drive. Combined with higher ground clearance and cargo versatility, the XV Crosstrek Hybrid is among the most capable and flexible hybrids you can buy for less than $30,000.

City/hwy/combined: 29/33/31 mpg
